Lost among adoption narratives is the narrative of the actual adoptee. Under a myopic view that often includes adoptee experiences being monolithic, adoptee voices have been relegated to an afterthought in adoption discussions. Forever children, infantilized by narratives that only speak for the adoptee.
Beyond the infantilization lies unique experiences and thoughts that shape each adoptee’s narrative. Like a fingerprint, no adoptee experience is the same. What is true for one is not true for all. As such, this blog serves as just one narrative among many adoptee voices. The views and experiences expressed here serve to shine a light on one adoptee perspective, from the vantage point of a Korean transracial adoptee.
